An unknown individual won $25 million from the Massachusetts State Lottery's $50 "Billion Dollar Extravaganza" instant game Tuesday. This is the largest scratch-off prize winner in Massachusetts state lottery history.
The Billion Dollar Extravaganza scratch-off game was released in February and has sold over 12.6 million tickets, as reported by the lottery.
Simmons & Schiavo Lottery Trust 2023-28 of Woburn claimed the $25 million grand prize on behalf of the ticket holder. Trustee Marco Schiavo represented the winner Tuesday and decided to take the cash option and receive a lump-sum payment of $16,250,000 before taxes.
"My client plans to use some of their winnings to purchase real estate and invest," Schiavo said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Speedway in Somerville. The store's owner received a $ 50,000 bonus commission from the lottery.
Two additional top prizes of $25 million remain in the " Billion Dollar Extravaganza " game, giving hopefuls one more opportunity to win a top prize. All five second-tier prizes of $2 million are still available to be won, as are eight out of 15 third-tier prizes of $1 million.
In addition, the $50 game offers ten second chance drawings, allowing players to submit non-winning tickets for a chance to win prizes ranging from $100 to $50,000. As of now, four drawings have already occurred.
Your chances of winning the "Billion Dollar Extravaganza" prize are 1 in 4.1.
